One of seven industry task forces reporting to the North Sea Transition Forum, the Technology Leadership Board (TLB) represents a cross-section of industry and works with government and other stakeholders to adopt, adapt and/or develop oil and gas technologies that support the energy transition and strengthen UK oil and gas industry competitiveness.

Co-chaired by the OGA and industry it interfaces with the other North Sea Transition Task Forces to agree synergies, avoid effort duplication and maximise benefit to the industry.

Mission: To drive the development and deployment of new and existing technology to enable the twin UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) goals of Maximising Economic Recovery (MER UK) and achieving a net zero basin by 2050.

Vision: To be the focal point for oil & gas technology on the UKCS, providing strategic direction and clear demand-led priorities aligned with MER UK and net zero commitments.

Strategy:

• Working with the industry to identify UKCS technology opportunities and challenges, and effecting plans to address them
• Providing long term strategic direction and defining technology priorities for the UKCS
• Aligning operating companies with suppliers and other delivery organisations to drive projects with strong industry sponsorship
• Championing technology deployment by sharing knowledge with support from technology leaders
• Driving awareness, engagement and action through effective communication and leadership

Co-chair statement: Technology will be essential to deliver a net zero carbon economy and secure the energy our homes and businesses need from the UKCS.

The impact of this transition is far reaching across every part of society, not least in the energy sector, and particularly in the oil and gas industry.

This has brought a new focus and energy to the work of the TLB and for companies operating on the UKCS.

The TLB’s strategy for the UKCS identifies the key opportunities and challenges for the future, creating clear priorities and connecting industry, regulators, academia and technology delivery organisations to develop and deploy existing and exciting new solutions.

We are also encouraging the sharing of knowledge, expertise and best practice – listening, supporting and communicating.

The success of our work is built on strong collaboration with the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA), the North Sea Transition Forum and the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) – key partners in our strategy.
